About us

The Staffordshire Mammal  Group  is a friendly  group  of enthusiasts who  like to share  their knowledge and experience with all who  have an interest  in British Mammals.

The groups aim is to promote the study of Mammals in Staffordshire and the UK, and to  record species distribution for Staffordshire.

We hold monthly meeting on the second Sunday of each month and the last  Wednesday evening of the summer months, see the events programme for more details.

Events are spread across the county  and but we also visit species hot  spots elsewhere to see Mountain Hares and Grey  Seals.

One month we may carry out small mammal  trapping, the next  looking for harvest  mice nests. The summer months include bat surveys as well as general surveys looking at  field signs of mammal activity.

We invite you all to attend the meetings, no previous experience is required. Although we do not have a membership  fee we encourage you  to  support  the national  Mammal Society.

We hope to  see you   at  one of our  meetings soon

Hike

Hazel Dormouse (Muscardinus avellanarius): We have a reintroduced population of dormice, however we also have a wild population on the other side of the country.

The best chance to see a dormouse is to come out with the group on our box checks, although we have not seen one in recent years.
